Allergist DC

Are you looking for the best allergist DC has to offer?  Allergies can cause a variety of symptoms upon their sufferers.  Many individuals that seem to get recurrent “common colds” may actually have allergies instead.  Allergies affect people everywhere, but the increased humidity which leads to higher than average mold growth in conjunction with the abundance of pollens in the Washington, DC area can be especially punishing for those who suffer from allergies related to these allergens.  Allergy symptoms may differ between individuals who are exposed to the same allergens.  At our offices in Washington, DC, McLean, VA (Tysons Corner, VA), and Manassas, VA, we encounter the following common DC allergy signs and symptoms:

  • Sneezing
  • Itchy, runny, and/or congestion of the nose
  • Itchy, watery, red, and/or swollen eyes
  • Itchy, flaky, and/or red skin
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Fatigue
  • Clogged feeling of the ears
  • Itchy and/or sore throat
  • Decreased sense of taste and/or smell
  • Sinus problems (e.g., sinus infections, sinus pressure, sinus headaches)
  • Snoring
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, or anywhere else (Angioedema)
  • Abdominal bloating, pain, and/or diarrhea
  • Hives (Urticaria)
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Eczema
  • Anaphylaxis – A severe life-threatening systemic allergic reaction
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Rashes
  • Recurrent infections
  • Flushing
  • Wheezing

You may be suffering these symptoms for a variety of reasons, and our allergists are prepared to help you figure out individualized treatment plans to manage and mitigate whatever symptoms you may be experiencing.  At Black & Kletz Allergy, our board certified allergists are some of the most competent in the Washington, DC metro area and we are prepared to provide comprehensive treatment options for allergies caused by a variety of factors including:

  • Airborne allergens (e.g., pollens, molds, dust mites, animal dander, cockroach)
  • Foods and food additives
  • Insect stings and bug bites (e.g., bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets)
  • Medications and vaccines
  • Substances which can trigger skin reactions upon contact (i.e., poison ivy/oak/sumac, metals, cosmetics, laundry detergents, dyes, adhesives)

Our allergists know the best techniques to diagnose your allergies.  At our Washington, DC and Northern Virginia offices, we provide comprehensive testing services to diagnose your allergies.  We use skin, blood, and/or patch tests to determine if you have allergies.  Ingestion challenges are done in selected individuals in order to evaluate certain food and/or medication allergies.  Pulmonary function testing is done if respiratory signs and/or symptoms are present in order to help diagnose and/or follow one’s course of their respiratory disease (e.g., asthma). Based on your test results, we can then provide comprehensive individualized treatment options.

The board certified allergists at Black & Kletz Allergy are trained to provide the most effective and current treatment regimens to both adults and children.  In addition to discussing environmental control measures in order to reduce your exposure to your offending allergens, our physicians will prescribe medications in the forms of tablets, syrups, powders, nasal sprays, eye drops, inhalers, etc. that are appropriate for you and your condition(s) while taking into consideration all of your other medical problems and medications that you use.  We are prepared to offer allergy immunotherapy (i.e., allergy shots; allergy injections) for airborne (hay fever) and insect sting-related allergies.  We also offer injections [e.g., Xolair (omalizumab)] which have been shown to be effective in treating both difficult to treat asthmatics and patients with recalcitrant chronic hives (chronic urticaria).  At Black & Kletz Allergy, we also provide comprehensive instructions on how and when to use various asthma inhalers as well as self-injectable adrenaline devices (e.g., EpiPen, Auvi-Q, and/or Adrenaclick) that may be needed in certain individuals in emergency situations.

Our Washington, DC allergist’s office and our McLean, VA (Tysons Corner, VA) are both Metro accessible.  All 3 of Black & Kletz Allergy’s office locations (Washington, DC, McLean, VA, and Manassas, VA) feature on-site parking.  Please do not hesitate to call us to make an appointment in one of our 3 locations or alternatively, you can Request an Appointment and we will respond back to you within 24 hours of the next business day.  Black & Kletz Allergy has been providing quality allergy, asthma and immunology care to the Washington, DC metro area for more than 50 years and we pride ourselves in helping several generations of Washingtonians.
